I read very fast. Someone had the nerve to ask me once, "Do you just read or do you read to engage yourself?"
Well, it's because I "engage" myself that I do read so fast and can finish a rather dense text in a matter of days. And plus, I learned how to read when I was like four years old. I'm great. And immodest about it.
Of course it's always nice to go back and reread through certain passages again. Anyway, since last Sunday I read three books. The Hero's Walk by Anita Rau Badami, Virtual Light by William Gibson who is Canadian as well, and The Harmony Silk Factory by Tash Aw (Malaysian dude).
I have another book by Ms. Anita that I haven't read yet, I think I might soon. It's easy to be disgusted by her characters but they're very human. And don't we hate it when we see horrible things in other people that are in ourselves? I read the Harmony Silk Factory in one day. I don't know what I was expecting, but I became completely fascinated. It's less about Johnny Lim and more about a poor deceased woman's memory being swallowed and distorted by history, I think. Last but definitely not least, my dear friend really admires William Gibson and I do too now. Burning Chrome is an awesome collection of short stories. I admit I didn't really read Sci-fi before, but don't be confined into staying within certain niches and genres. A person is likely to miss a lot when they do that.
Oh and this too; "Billy Holiday was probably a guy like Elvis", Chevette thought, with spangles on his suit, but like when he was younger and not all fat."
That's about all. I'm not the New York Times book review, nor do I want to be.
Anyways, I need more books to read.
