I was watching a rather dull fantasy movie this early, early morning and during its averageness my mind starting wandering and I began to think about the way speech changes over time.
Mostly regular everyday phrases that nobody really thinks about, and those that are irritating because they're just so cliché. What might of triggered it was glamour.
Those two-dimensional characters uttered it with contempt when they suspected the actions of a fairy. Glamour being the tricks played upon poor unsuspecting humans. Imitating the appearance of a lost love and such things like that. Not that far from the more modern day usage referring to heightened attractiveness and other desirable qualities. If someone wants to argue semantics they could keep going on about
all the little ways the older usage continues to hold on in its own way and so on but these are just my nonsensical stream of consciousness rambles. Not an essay or anything but I'll probably come back to it later. In a few years I'd like to look back at most of the things in this blog and laugh.
Hmm, interesting topic etymology is but it's too early zzzzz
