That ain't workin'

Censorship is confusing for me. Recently, the Dire Straits song, "Money For Nothing" was banned on Canadian radio stations for the lyric "that little faggot" in the second verse. This song, released in what was it? 1985? Because somebody in Newfoundland complained, I believe.
People don't seem to taking it so well, and a few radio stations in response played it on repeat and uncensored for a full hour. Instead of the edited version, which is still okay here.
I don't remember ever thinking it was offensive to my delicate sensibilities, sure when I first heard it I was mildly surprised for maybe five seconds. There are so many other things more deserving of ire. Honestly, the song is blatantly satirical, I can't stand people taking things out of context. Anger just for the sake of being angry? That's not good for anybody or anything. What do the lyrics suggest? A man is unimpressed with the millionaire rock stars he's seeing on MTV. This was still pretty much at the beginning of the music video era, I wasn't around then and I don't even listen to Dire Straits but can tell this much and let it go. Is the word "faggot" offensive? Yes, it is. It's full of many strong and hateful nuances, and is used to degrade people. But in addition, depending on what English speaking country you hail from, you could also just be talking about cigarettes. Perhaps kindling? That's digressing a bit though. The singer for the group was beaten up after a concert by offended people back in the day. So this isn't the first time "Money For Nothing" caused problems I guess. But something like this, 25 years after the fact seems a bit prudish. To put it mildly.
Compare this to what happened at the Super Bowl XXXVIII show in 2004.
Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake are performing and oops her breast is revealed to the entire world for a few seconds. American public is outraged, but in Canada CBC (or CTV?) keeps showing the incident hour after hour uncensored and nothing really happens. Just a bit of hahaha and several people were like "silly Americans are so worried over that?" I was sitting in front of the TV a lot during that time (this was in the winter) and my mother who is the "You're a woman now! Act like one!" type never even batted an eyelash. It's a bit funny that it was just shown on our government television stations like that, as is, while our neighbours were getting into such a tizzy. Then this song from way back is banned after one person makes a big complaint. Was that little bit of exhibitionism at the football game staged, as it's been suggested? I don't even think it matters anymore but can't imagine the choreographer, with Janet and Justin, discussing how it's all gonna happen. So much trouble over something like that? Pretty every woman in the world has breasts, I don't understand what that gigantic ruckus was about. I think that itself is more offensive. Why spend all this time getting offended and being mad? For the sanity of the world and ourselves, or what's left of it, we all need to relax.
I didn't mean for this to be so long! Wall of text!
